Pictures from Pisa

After Florence we visited Pisa en route to Venice. We had about an hour there, so I had to take pictures quickly. The sun was at a tough angle to get great pictures, but here's what I got.

We had to take a toy train from the parking lot to Pisa, so naturally I had to make a fool of myself.

Laura and I in front of the leaning tower. Like I said, the sun was at a tough angle. If you wanted to get a good picture of you with the full leaning action, the sun was right at your back which creates bad shadows. We did our best.

This is the baptistery in Pisa. It is really cool because inside it is a huge marble echo chamber. We payed about 6 euros to get access to it, which is quite a lot because there really isn't much inside, but I knew the secret. At the bottom of each hour, they would close the doors and get everybody (about 6 people including Laura and I) quiet. Then the curator would go to the center of the building and sing a series of melodic notes that reverberated forever! This was really cool because he was able to build beautiful sounding chords that filled the massive baptistery. I'm glad we did this.

This is a cool shot of the cathedral and the leaning tower. It helps to show you how much the tower is actually leaning. Whats interesting is that the tower started leaning during construction. But instead of starting over, the Pisans decided to use shorter columns on one side, so now its shaped like a banana.
