We finally finished our move from the apartment to our new house on Friday. Its amazing how good it feels to be home. The last three weeks were pretty hectic trying to get our stuff to the new house and get the house ready to move in. On Friday we had a moving company (Two Men and a Truck) come haul the rest of our big items to the house. These included our bed, couch, end tables, and chest of drawers. With the help of Laura's parents, we were able to move everything else we owned before then. This was great because we had to pay the movers for a two hour minimum, and at 115 an hour, we didn't want to take longer than that. So the movers arrived exactly when they said they would. This, to me, is very important. They came into the apartment and surveyed the work load and quickly got to work. In 45 minutes, they had the truck loaded and ready to go! Keep in mind, they had to take each item to the far end of the complex where their truck was parked which was about 100 yards away.
We hit the road with them following us to the house. Once there I showed them where to put everything, and they took great care to not scratch anything. Unpacking everything took then 30 minutes, and we completed the paperwork and payments right as the clock struck two hours. Fantastic!! Laura and I were so happy to finally have all of our stuff in our new home. The movers were probably the best 250 bucks we have spent in a while. They made the last stage of moving a breeze!
Now that we have everything and we are living in the house we have to start organizing. I am not so good at this, but I have a strong back and a weak mind so I can move anything Laura asks me. Laura is really good at organizing, so I just try and get out of the way and not screw anything up. We spent the second half of Friday getting organized and cleaning up. Our main cleaning focus were the bathrooms. It took a couple hours of scrubbing but we eventually got them spic and span, so now when we shower we don't come out dirtier than when we went in.
In case you are wondering, we did not get everything organized last weekend, and we still have more to clean. But we have made a lot of progress. We have gotten our house to a point that if people want to come over, we can hide most of our crap out of sight. I think it will be a couple weeks til everything is put away, then at that point we can organize our party!
moar details to come.
