help with mosquitoes

I know it's the summer, and I know in the summer mosquitoes are everywhere. But, there has got to be an effective and safe way to get rid of them or at least control them. In the evening they are really bad making it difficult to do any yard work. So my question is, what are some good ways to control the bugs in and around my yard?

Some options I have read about include:
  • fogging - easy, relatively inexpensive, not sure of how effective
  • chemical sprays - easy, not sure how safe they are
  • citronella candles - don't work in large areas
  • bug vacuums - expensive

Any advise on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I need to get this taken care of before the party.

  1. Here's what you do, Rob. Get a couple bug zappers, one for the front porch and one for the back porch. All you gotta do is turn them on and you get an endless source of red neck entertainment. Just add some beer, and you got it made.

My experience with mosquito control is that you can't really do it. Fogging is only temporary since all it does is send them over to the neighbor's yard. Check around the yard to make sure you have no standing water. Or, stay inside and hire a yard man.

  2. Well, I dont want to just stay inside because that means the terrorists win. I think fogging or spray might be my best option. I need to at least reduce the intesity of the mosquitoes for a couple hours so we can get some wiffle ball in. On the porch, I use the candles.
