This weekend we continued the eternal struggle to move all of our junk from spot A to spot B. It all reminds me of a George Carlin bit where he talks about how our lives revolve around where we will be keeping our stuff.

Did you watch the video? Yeah, its pretty creative. Anyways, we were able to move in a lot more of our stuff. We got the kitchen table, guest bed, and a lot more boxes of kitchen stuff (dishes and appliances). Now, all of this stuff was being stacked up in the living room and kitchen and it was starting to get a bit cluttered. So saturday evening we started cleaning dishes and putting things in the appropriate closet. Its nice not have a lot of stuff when you move because it takes far less time to organize. Quickly we started to see some results. We got the bed set up, all of the appliances put away, the clean dishes in the cabinets, and the several boxes of books upstairs.
On Saturday we had a couple deliveries as well. Our new refrigerator was delivered and installed and it just barely fit within the dimensions of the cutout. I must have done an excellent job measuring because there couldn't be more than 1/16" of combined wiggle room on either side. The washer and dryer were also delivered and installed. Laura and her mom instantly fell in love with the washer, dryer and refrigerator. What caused this infattuation? Simple; when the washer and dryer turn on they say,
"bleep boop beep bop boop beeb"
and the refrigerator beeps when you press the different buttons. That's it, you say? Yup, that's it. They say that its like having your own Wall-E or Eve in the house.
Finally, this weekend we got the carpets a much needed cleaning. The guy did a great job, but let me tell you a little about carpet cleaners. You have no idea what they are going to do until they get to your house. When calling for quotes, I had to tell them how many areas I needed to clean. And from what I read, and area was a a bedroom, hallway, master closet, or staircase. Well, those are actually full areas. Half areas include the landing on a divided stair case, hall closets (even ones that are less than 5 sqft) and small bedroom closets. There are tons of "half areas" and they add up fast, so we left those off the cleaning list. Next, the cleaner guy will survey the house and point out all the spots where they have to do "special treatment" which of course is an extra fee which will often double the price of that room. Some of these special treatments I think are necessary, most imporatantly the spots of animal pee.
Being a professional carpet cleaner, one must see a ton of dog and cat piss stains. Our guy pointed out every stain and said, "..must have been a small dog. You can tell because this is a small to medium sized pee stain." Question: during carpet cleaner training, do they have to look at flash cards of pee stains and classify the size? These flash cards would probably need to have some sort of scale next to the pee stain like a paperclip or a dime? Sounds awesome.
So when it was all said an done, we ended up paying about 75% more than we expected to pay for carpet cleaning, but it was worth it. I figure all carpet cleaning companies to the same thing, so there are no regrets.

When I signed a new lease to my apt they gave me a free carpet cleaning for all of the carpeted areas. The catch was that they will move no fruniture and they will only clean where the floor is clear. Needless to say it is damn near impossible to fit all of my junk into the tiny kitchen and bathroom and you can only stack stuff so high on the bed.
